Creating Members Manually
Step-by-step guide to creating virtual members one at a time.
Creating virtual members one at a time gives you full control over each profile. This is the best approach when you have a small number of members (under 20) or want highly customized profiles.
Create the WordPress User
- 1.Go to WordPress Admin → Users → Add New.
- 2.Fill in the following fields:
- 3.
- Username: Use a realistic name format (e.g.,
sarah_johnsonormike.chen) - Email: Use a real or placeholder email address. Each user needs a unique email.
- First Name / Last Name: Use the member's full name.
- Password: Set a strong password (the user won't log in, but a password is required).
- Role: Set to Subscriber — virtual members don't need admin access.
- Username: Use a realistic name format (e.g.,
- 4.Click Add New User.

A convincing virtual member should have a full profile. After creating the user:
- 1.Go to Users → All Users and click Edit on the new user.
- 2.Fill in the Biographical Info field with a short bio.
- 3.If BuddyBoss profile fields are enabled (e.g., location, job title), fill those in too.
- 4.Upload a profile photo by going to the user's BuddyBoss profile page while logged in as an admin.
Assign a Persona
BuddyActivity adds a Persona dropdown to each user's profile edit screen. This field is for your internal reference — it helps you remember the voice and style for each virtual member when writing their content in the spreadsheet.
- 1.While editing the user, scroll to the BuddyActivity section.
- 2.Select a persona from the dropdown (e.g., "Enthusiastic Beginner", "Experienced Mentor", "Quiet Observer").
- 3.Click Update User.
Add the Member to Groups
Virtual members must be members of the BuddyBoss groups they will post in. An activity post will fail silently if the author is not a member of the target group.
- 1.While logged in as an admin, navigate to the BuddyBoss group's page.
- 2.Go to Manage → Members → Add Members.
- 3.Search for the virtual member's username and add them.
- 4.Alternatively, use BuddyBoss's admin panel: BuddyBoss → Groups → [Group Name] → Members.
Note the User ID
You will need the WordPress User ID when filling in your spreadsheet.
- 1.Go to Users → All Users.
- 2.Hover over the user's name — the URL in the browser's status bar will show
user_id=123. - 3.Note this number. You will enter it in the
USER_IDcolumn of your Google Sheet.
View in Member Library
The Member Library page in BuddyActivity automatically displays all eligible users who are part of the activity workflow. This includes users who will author posts, comments, and replies.
- 1.Go to BuddyActivity → Member Library to view all eligible members.
- 2.Review the list to confirm your newly created member appears with their User ID, Display Name, Persona, and Group assignments.
- 3.Use this page as a central reference when filling in your content spreadsheet.
